Ntepo

In the area, on Georgiou Papandreou Avenue, is the settlement of Ouziel and the Alatini Mills. It borders the neighborhood of Karampournaki in the municipality of Kalamaria, Vyzantio, Votsi, Charilaou, and Analipsi. Within its boundaries is the Villa Alatini, where Sultan Abdul Hamid II stayed for a period of time while fleeing from the movement of the Young Turks. The area was once home to many Jews who perished in the Nazi Holocaust. After the liberation in 1912, the Muslims abandoned their villas. During World War I, the buildings were used to house military services. New buildings were also constructed in accordance with the architectural trends of the time. After the Asia Minor Catastrophe of 1922, families of Asia Minor refugees settled in the area. Many buildings were also used to temporarily house refugees. Additionally, the area is home to the old storage warehouse, or tram depot, of Thessaloniki. This is where the neighborhood got its name, as "depot" is a French word and translates to "warehouse." The city's trams were once horse-drawn, so the warehouse also housed the stables for the horses. The space was functional until 1954, when Konstantinos Karamanlis, as Minister of Public Works, dismantled the Thessaloniki tram lines and abolished the Depo-Tsimiski tram line. In 1957, Karamanlis, now Prime Minister, abolished the rest of the tram network and established the monopolistic private organization OASTH in its place
